ID Card Renewal
Renewing your ID card is free if you present your old card. The procedure is the same as a first application. You can renew up to one year before expiration.
Steps to Follow
- Complete a pre-application online on ants.gouv.fr.
- Book an appointment at a town hall with a biometric device.
- Present your old ID card and required documents.
- Pick up your new card at the town hall once you receive the SMS notification.
Practical Tips
- Renew before expiration to avoid being without valid ID.
- If your card was automatically extended by 5 years (cards issued 2004-2013), it remains valid even if the printed date has passed.
- Remember to update your address if you have moved.
